Welcome!
Welcome to The CD Information Center, a public service website from The CD-Info Company. Here you will find information about Compact Disc (CD) & Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) in all their forms (physical and data formats), especially how they are manufactured and used for electronic publishing, CD and DVD recorders (burners), and software. Some aspects of the optical disc data storage and publishing industries and history are presented, along with information about new developments in this field, including Blu-Ray and HD DVD. There is even a humor section! We also offer links to other websites with more information on these subjects.
Site History
This website has been continuously published since October 1995 (although a preview was available in September of that year). Thanks to everyone who has supported our efforts over the years with encouragment, articles, suggestions and advertising.
Changes
The site is slowly undergoing a complete revision. If you are a returning visitor, you will instantly notice our new look. But the changes go deeper than surface appearances. In the course of this redesign we are examining and updating all articles in this large site (over 200 pages of hand-coded HTML), and even reorganizing the directory structure. The original framework has served us well for the past nine years, but now it’s time to bring it into the present. If you have built deep links to specific pages here, please update them since the redirect pages may disappear at some point.
In the meantime, we have moved to a new server that should be faster and more reliable.
The old homepage has been renamed, but it is still available on the site. If there is some information in it that you need that I have not yet transferred to this page, you can find it here.
Revised Pages & Sections
Here is a progress report, to be updated as we tick off more sections on the to-do list.
- Applications section
- We have a new article here about personal video archiving. Older articles are still available here
- Technology section
- This huge section (over 120 pages) is a work in progress. Watch the "tech" index page for updates as they come online. There will be too many to list here.
- CD & DVD FAQs
- CD & DVD Terminology
- About us
- Humor
Yet more Changes on the Way
Some of the links on the left of this page still point to old-style pages. Those will be updated as we go along in the redesign, redevelopment process. Please bear with us during the transition!
New Featured Section
Another notable change is the addition of a blog, or weblog about current CD and DVD topics, including disc recording, publishing and content development software, hardware and techniques. The rationale for this new feature is that it makes it easier, and thus faster, to add breaking news to the site. Please have a look and let us know what you think! This is likely to be the most current part of our site, so come back and check it often.
Enjoy!
We hope you like the new look, and that the restructuring (in progress) will make the site easier to navigate and more useful. Let us know what you think! contact us with your comments and suggestions. We would love to hear from you.
